Frequently Asked Questions

Does “Evangelical Free” mean you don’t believe in evangelism?

We most definitely believe in evangelism!  The  word “free” in “Evangelical Free”  is in reference to how each church in this association of churches chooses to govern itself.  Cedar Ridge is a unique entity and may differ from other Evangelical Free Churches in the matter of governance.

Historically however, the Evangelical Free Church came out of State run churches.  They were determined that this new entity would be based on Scripture and not government, so they called themselves “Free” and “Evangelical”.

Our church is congregational, yet elder-led.  The EFCA states, “We are committed to Jesus Christ, to the gospel and to one another.  As an association of churches that aligns itself with the same Statement of Faith, we are distinct yet deeply connected.”

Are you a charismatic or “Spirit-filled”  church?

In actuality, we are not charismatic.  Yet, we are not “anti-charismatic”.  We understand that there are godly people on both sides of  this issue.  However, we feel that many of the gifts that characterize the charismatic movement were gifted for the early days of  the Church, but have since ceased.
