Contra Dance

so….what’s a contra dance? Well, we can only speak from experience, so here goes…

RECIPE for a CONTRA DANCE:

1. A great band.

In this case,  Southfork Strings Band an experienced group of very talented musicians who can basically play lively music in their sleep! You’ll find your toes tappin’ and your spirits liftin’ to such favorites as Arkansas Traveler, Red River Valley, Cluck Old Hen, Westphalia Waltz and the Virginia Reel.   BTW, The band doesn’t charge a thing- the dance is free, but we like to show our appreciation by giving them some nice tips!  Bring some cash to bless them with!

2. A fantastic caller.  Diana Larson calls the dances and teaches each dance before it is actually done to music. This gives everyone a clue as to what to expect.  When the music starts, the caller leads the dance and the participants perform the specified steps.

3.  The dancers.  This includes people of all ages, sizes, and skills. People come from all over- we’re not sure where everyone is from, but we meet new friends every time! We want to emphasize SKILLS, as some have it and some simply don’t!  It doesn’t matter! It’s just a heap of fun!

4.  And finally, everyone else!  There are some people who simply cannot bring themselves to make an attempt and that is all right! It’s great entertainment and a chance to sit, relax and meet new people.  There are refreshments provided as well!

THERE IS GENERALLY A CONTRA DANCE EVERY OTHER MONTH AT CEDAR RIDGE CHURCH!
